Texas State Representative - House District 102

Representative Carol Kent
Carol Hittson Kent was elected in November 2008 to serve as the State Representative for House District 102. The Dallas County district includes portions of Far North Dallas, Garland, Lake Highlands, and Richardson.

Carol has deep roots in North Texas and a record of accomplishment to serve House District 102. A sixth-generation Texan, Carol grew up in Garland and has lived in Dallas County for over 40 years. She and her husband, David, live in the Lake Highlands area, and all three of their children graduated from our local public schools. Carol graduated from South Garland High School and holds both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from Baylor University. Carol's dedication to children and public school issues has been at the core of her commitment to public service. A longtime school advocate and community volunteer, Carol has served as a PTA president, chaired numerous school district committees and was campaign director for the Vote Yes! Political Action Committee that successfully led the $350 million school bond election in 2001. Carol was elected to the Richardson ISD Board of Trustees in 2003 and served until her election to the Texas Legislature.

In addition to her volunteer work, Carol has a 20 year career in higher education working as a teacher and administrator in both private and public institutions at the university and community college level. Carol's teaching career includes Baylor University, St. Edwards University, and Richland Community College. In 2002, Carol was selected from among 800 adjunct faculty members to receive the Dallas County Community College Excellence In Teaching Award for Richland College. She has been director of the Baylor Women's Network for Baylor University since 2003.

Carol is a Texas Fellow of the Center for Reform of School Systems, a former member of the Texas Association of School Boards, a member of the Lake Highlands Exchange Club, and a graduate of Leadership Richardson, where she has served on the group's Advisory Board. She has helped found neighborhood crime watch patrol and homeowners' associations. She has held leadership positions in many local civic groups and service organizations over the years, such as The 500, Inc., Lakewood Service League, Richardson Symphony League, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts.

Carol and her family have been members of Highland Park United Methodist Church since 1980. She and her husband have been active in many areas of their church over the years, having been members of the choir and serving as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teachers.
